I was delighted to get a parcel from Crafty Cripple last week. She had kindly offered me her cross stitching bits when she read my post about wanting to try it out.
Once again, when I opened the parcel I was overwhelmed by her kindness. She sent me some kits, a book of cross stitch patterns, blank cards and some charts from magazines which she’d selected because she thought I might like them. She wouldn’t accept any money for the kits or towards the postage.
We’ve never met in real life, although I enjoy reading her blog very much. I’ve thanked her privately already, but I wanted to mention it here too. Honestly, the crafters I’ve ‘met’ restore my (wavering) faith in human nature.
Since I got into crafting, I’ve got to know some lovely people on Ravelry and in blogland. I’ve never met them face to face, but I’ve chatted to them online and I’ve been inspired by their posts. When I blogged about not being able to knit, I got so many supportive comments and suggestions for crafts I could do instead and, as you know, I’ve taken to cross stitch like a duck to water.
One of the messages was from nodding violets, who kindly offered me her stash of fabric and floss, as she doesn’t cross stitch any more. I got home on Friday to find a big parcel waiting for me.
I couldn’t believe how much she had sent me – sheets and sheets of Aida 14 count fabric in different colours and a bag full of DMC floss in all colours of the rainbow. Enough to get me started on all the projects I’m planning.
I was overwhelmed that someone who I’ve never met would do something so kind. She wouldn’t accept any money for the kit or for postage. I’ve already thanked nodding violets privately, but I wanted to thank her here, too, for her thoughtfulness and generosity.
I had a lovely surprise yesterday. I was sent home early from work because my cold got worse. I found a parcel waiting there for me, sent by a friend I chat to in a Ravelry forum.

Parcel full of treats
Inside were chocolate buttons, calming tea, sock needles and best of all a new friend for my bear, Nev. As you can see, Nev and Doris (as I have decided to call her) are bonding over a shared interest.

I’ve never met this person, but she took the time to make Doris and to put some extra treats in the parcel. She knew I’d had some bad luck since Christmas and that I’d been unwell, so she wanted to cheer me up. Knitters are wonderful people.
