I mentioned in my last post that I had a specific purchase in mind with funds I’ve raised from Ebay selling. The purchase is…a dress form!
I did a bit of research and I’ve chosen the (strangely named) Lady Valet. I have to admit the main reason I picked that model is because it looks nice, as well as being adjustable. If I’m going to have a headless woman in the corner of my living room freaking me out, the least it can do is look classy, right?
I struggled to fit the ‘Peony’ dress I was making on myself, so I hope having a dress form will help me with fitting issues and adjustments.

Isn’t she lovely! I got one of these last year for my birthday. It is a bit off-putting at first having it in the corner but I have got used to it now. I call her Hamble. She has been really useful for photographing my knits too.

I need to think of a name for mine
It will be useful for photographing my makes, normally I ask one of my colleagues to take a photo at work in the lunch hour!

Oh she is lovely. If I had anywhere to site her in my house I’d have bought one long ago, but as I’m not really sewing at the moment, it’s probably just as well I don’t have one. She would just make me cry because I couldn’t use her.

I don’t really have room either, but I’ll fit her in somehow. I’m really sorry to hear you can’t sew at the moment. I struggle with it – I have to do it in short bursts otherwise it knackers me out completely.

I just got my first dress form after YEARS of wanting one . . . and I love just seeing her in my sewing room! I guess it makes me feel like a *real* seamstress!
Enjoy!

Yay a dress form! It will definitely help with fittings – just remember that no form will ever be a perfect replacement for your own body (even if the measurements are exactly the same as yours, it’s never exactly the same shape as you). Also, keep in mind that you might need to weight down the legs when you are using it – three-legs can tip over when you are using them.
I have a form in my size set to my measurements, but I tried to match my silhouette by making the front dials wider and reducing the sides to match my more oval circumference shape while keeping the overall measurement the same.

Thank you, I will bear that in mind
